CVS ExtraCare Bucks

CVS ECBs (ExtraCare Bucks)

ExtraCare Bucks are CVS’s way of saying “thanks for shopping in our store! Please come back!”. They are earned on qualifying purchases and differ from week to week (though some do run through the month). Instead of being used like a coupon, as the rewards are at Walgreens, these are more like a register-printed giftcards that print out after your transaction. Here are some tips and policies governing ECBs:

  1. You must have your card scanned (or number typed in) to earn ECBs.
  2. While some ECBs are earned for single purchases (for example, Crest toothpaste may earn you $2.99 in ECBs), others are for multiple items (for example, “Buy $15 in these participating products, earn $5 ECBs). Coupons can still be used on these purchases- the qualifying amount is BEFORE coupons are applied, which really lowers your OOP expense.
  3. ECBs are also earned in three other ways: you get 2% of your purchases (after coupons) back per quarter. You also earn $1 ECB for every 2 prescriptions filled. If you have a “green bag tag” on a reusable bag, you can earn $1 ECBs after every 4 scans (1 scan per visit).
  4. Your loyalty card tracks your purchases, so you can only earn rewards on qualifying purchases the number of times allowed (quite often, only once) per CARD. So, even if you purchase ECB-earning toothpaste in 2 different transactions, you only earn ECBs one time.
  5. ECBs do expire, but they have a longer usable period than RRs at Walgreens.
